Tenchusatsu, re: "a dual Pentium III server can beat a four-way K6-III server."

I understand that Dell isn't likely to offer a super-server based on K6 chips any time soon. But it seems a shame not to capitalize on the price of AMD's low-end chips to create PCs more capable than those based upon single, yet more expensive, Intel CPUs.

There are tasks such as hi-res color printing, CD-RW burning, soft MODEM and software MPEG that consume nearly the entire processing power of single CPUs. True or not, to most retail buyers, a pair of 400MHz CPUs register in their minds as an 800MHz PC. NT/Windows 2000 and dual-CPU systems could be sold to both home users and small business.

Given the absence of such products, I must conclude that innovation is a dying art. Mobo and box makers are obviously content to wait for CPU manufacturers to offer another measly 50MHz in performance for twice the price.
