USRF's CyberHighway--TM-- Launches National Search for New Affiliates
CyberHighway System Cuts Local ISP Overhead and Provides Suite of Value-Added Internet Products
BATON ROUGE, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31,1999--Internet Media Corp. (OTCBB: USRF - news) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, CyberHighway, Inc., a full-service Internet Service Provider (ISP) providing service in over 230 cities in 12 states, has initiated its national search for local, independent ISPs who want to become CyberHighway affiliates. Becoming a CyberHighway affiliate would allow an ISP to reduce dramatically its overhead costs through the use of CyberHighway's proprietary operating methods, and would permit an ISP to offer a suite of CyberHighway's value-added Internet services to the ISP's local customers. CyberHighway's national search is being launched in conjunction with Internet Media's effort to deploy its US.RF(TM) Quick-Cell(TM) Wireless CLEC Internet System, a strategy designed to expand significantly the USRF/CyberHighway ''footprint.''
CyberHighway's proprietary operating methods have, historically, reduced its ISP-affiliates' overhead expenses by as much as 50%, by centralizing many of the time-consuming technical and administrative functions and services at CyberHighway's Boise Network Operations Center (NOC). CyberHighway's affiliates, once fully integrated into the network, are free to concentrate on marketing its Internet services in their local markets, which, in the case of nearly all affiliates, has led to an increase in subscribers.
All CyberHighway affiliates also gain access to a suite of value-added Internet technologies and products, including the US.RF Quick-Cell Wireless Internet System. In addition, CyberHighway affiliates will be able to provide a wide range of Internet business solutions, when CyberHighway's local/national e-commerce portal, ''e-tail.com,'' and Internet telephony products are introduced during the second quarter of this year. Each CyberHighway affiliate is granted an exclusive-rights territory, usually a particular city, in which it is the only ISP permitted to operate under the ''CyberHighway'' brand name.
''This is a win-win situation for all concerned,'' said CyberHighway President, Bill Basham. ''Local, independent ISPs currently burdened by overhead expenses and unable to afford value-added Internet services necessary to compete effectively in their markets can, simply by becoming a CyberHighway affiliate, suddenly transform themselves into state-of-the-art ISPs capable of offering a suite of leading-edge Internet technologies and access to our national system. With the US.RF Wireless Internet products, as well as the anticipated e-commerce and Internet telephony options, we can offer local ISPs potential sources of revenues not previously available to them. Plus, by handling nearly all of the technical and administrative dirty-work, we free the owners of these local ISPs to spend more time marketing their Internet service. We anticipate an immediate and overwhelming response to our search, since there can only be one CyberHighway affiliate in any given territory,'' Basham concluded.
When asked for comment, James Kaufman, Internet Media's V.P. - Corporate Development, said, ''The overwhelming response to the US.RF Quick-Cell program demonstrates what local ISPs are telling us: they need access to value-added technologies in order to compete with national providers. They mention by name companies like At Home (NASDAQ: ATHM - news), Verio (NASDAQ: VRIO - news) Mindspring (NASDAQ: MSPG - news) and Prodigy (NASDAQ: PRGY - news). The Cyberhighway system and its team of Internet experts allow local ISPs to increase profitability, by passing along savings achieved through its large-scale operating efficiencies and deploying CyberHighway's suite of value-added Internet products, including the US.RF Quick-Cell system. We expect this combination of CyberHighway-derived benefits to allow any local ISP to exploit their 'home-town' presence and compete effectively against national providers in their markets.''
