The fight of the next millennium ?
I don't think so. No more than the fight between AT&T and Western Union (in previous decades, never mind a millennium, when Internet time was still unheard of) or DEC vs Honeywell, for that matter. The journo who wrote that piece is just doing his job.
But if he wants to be complete in doing that job, he should note that Nortel is now by far the leader in provisioning big pipes. This is due, largely, to their integration of dense WDM in their other nodal products. DWDM, itself, in its current make up has a limited shelf life, IMO. NT, too, is in for challenges, despite their apparent DWDM lead.
I've learned that one cannot do long term weather forecasting based on reports of yesterday's storm damage. |
