Your approach is simplistic, and wrong.

Religions are rarely the only source of conflicts, and are often used as an excuse by Nationalists. In many cases religions provide the restraint and humanity to avoid conflict.

Think about it, the worst atrocities were committed in the name of Ideologies or Nationalisms that had absolutist goals. The following had nothing or very little to do with religion :

Nazi Germany
Imperial Japan
Fascist Italy
Communist China
Stalinist Russia
PolPot's Cambodia
