Tribasa, Burlington Northern preparing railway bid
MONTERREY, Mexico, Feb 21 (Reuter) - Builder Grupo Tribasa SA de CV and
U.S.
railroad company Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp have agreed to join
forces in a bid for
the privatization of a Mexican railway, a Tribasa official said on
Friday.
The bid for the Pacific-Norte line will be led by Tribasa, the official,
who declined to be
identified, told Reuters.
"The agreement (with Burlington) is to bid for the Pacifico-Norte line.
Still to be defined is if
they will participate as an equity partner or a commercial partner," the
official said.
Tribasa and partners Railtex Inc and Impulsora Tlaxcalteca created a
consortium to bid for
the nation's shorter railway lines and the 6,000 km Pacifico-Norte route.
Before the inclusion of the new U.S. partner, Tribasa owned half the
consortium's shares with
its partners holding 25 percent each.
