OTOT: AOL, Netscape. What really bugged me about the AOL Netscape buyout was the layoffs. First it was announced that Netscape would have to lay off 300 or so people, mentioned HR and Accounting as the dept's that would get hit most. That's a lot of personnel and accounting people for a small company. Then, it came out that Netscape would have to layoff 1,000 people. Now, you definitely are getting to technical (software, etc.) people. My question is why did Netscape get all of the dirty end of the stick? WAG tells me that Netscape, on average has the technically talented people, not AOL. Is Netscape being dismantled because they bug someone, or are in the way? If 1,000 people are let go from Netscape, I'd bet it's goodbye Netscape.
