Dave correct me if I'm wrong....but most mfgs (and the public) will want dvd to be backward compatable to vcd. Right..?

So when the dvd chip comes..... eventually they can kill two birds with one stone when the price is right. Then as others finally get a dvd chip out, they drop prices again and then sell a ton of them...ala Intel's market strategy. Is this senario possible?

I have no chip or software design experience....i just seem to know a good company when i find one:-))
