Multex.com gets exclusive AOL spot, stock surges
NEW YORK, March 31 (Reuters) - America Online Inc. (NYSE:AOL - news) made Multex.com (Nasdaq:MLTX - news) the exclusive provider of brokerage research on AOL's personal finance channel, the companies said Wednesday.
Shares of Multex.com rose $17.00 or 43 percent, to $57.75, touching a high of $64, in early afternoon trade on the Nasdaq stock market after the announcement.
Multex.com, which provides access to reports and other investment information by more than 400 investments banks, brokers and other researchers, will also be featured on other America Online services such as CompuServe and AOL UK.
An AOL spokesman declined to provide any financial terms of the deal.
New York-based Multex.com first joined AOL's personal finance channel as an anchor tenant in Nov. 1998, when the company launched its Multex Investor Network Internet site.
Since its launch, the Multex Investor Network's membership has grown to 235,000 members, many of whom have come through the relationship with AOL, Multex.com said.
Dulles, Va.-based America Online is the world's No. 1 online service, with about 16 millions members on its flagship AOL service and 2 million members on CompuServe. |
