The reason to bother with E*Trade was to get IPO shares. I also wanted to try out an on-line broker and experience $15 trades. I'm in this for the money like everyone else and if you can get your hands on an IPO in any way related to the internet then its easy money, for now. Things will change and I agree that there will come a day when shorting every one of these overvalued stocks will be a great return. But shorting anyone of these stocks right now is more dangerous than buying them in my opinion. You say "let the suckers have this and other stocks like it", but shorting this stock is not really any different than buying it, riskwise.
