Old Cook Books Never Die or Fade away, maybe they should:
“The true nature of science and exploration is looking where others have looked and seeing what they have not seen.” But none can be achieved without the benefit of a good cook behind the scenes continuously developing recipes by applying fire to samples and recording his results so that others may benefit from his due diligence.

IPM Moon Rings

(Onion Rings)

As a report is worth waiting for so goes the first bite of the best onion ring you've ever chanced to sink your teeth into.
The following recipe is truly my own and after years of fine tuning my formula I can with confidence replicate the experience. With chain of custody and verification you too will soon be producing golden rings of your very own.
Remember you as third party may adjust your assay method to get the most efficient and personally satisfying results. Feel free to share this with anyone you choose.

Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 large Imperial Sweet, Colossal, or Maui Onion
2 beaten eggs
1 tablespoon granulated garlic (may substitute powdered)
1 teaspoon salt
1 7oz. bag of Japanese Style Bread Crumbs (Panko Flakes)

Cut onion into thirds producing large rings. Wash rings and float in bowl of water. Blend eggs, granulated garlic, salt, and one shot of water in a bowl for dipping. Powder wet ring in flour. Re-dip floured ring in water and flour again to complete the “gluecoat.” Dip ring into the egg mixture carefully coating inside and out following with a coat of Japanese Style Bread Crumbs (Panko Flakes.) Heat oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and cook rings until golden brown. Remove and drain. Serve warm and eat before the neighbors figure what you're up to.

Blue Sky Pastry Minglement

(Nana's Pastry Mix)
Jennie Ambrose

From the kitchen of Chuca's Nana ............. her recipe lives on!

7 Cups flour ( 21/4 pounds )
2 1/2 Cups of shortening ( 1 pound )
4 Teaspoons of salt ( Hey, this is from the 50's, seriously folks cut it down, watch your salt. )

Sift and mix flour and salt ( basalt. )
Cut in shortening until pieces are the size of peas. ( 20 mesh / to 40 micron )
Store mix in a large plastic bag set inside a # 5 coffee can. (What size is that now? 12 opt.)

Instead of shortening she used the word Spry....What is Spry? It is like Crisco!
