Thomas,

Sorry for the slow response time. You may be right about the lukewarm reponse to IDBEF filing with the FDA being based on the perception that the smaller gene-chip companies will not be able to compete with the big boys. It is true that the fundamental technology used by these chip companies is similar and that you can use several different chips for the same applications. However, like the example of IDBEF's chip for s. aureas, there are niches for specialized applications. I am not too familiar with the company or the product but I do know that the market for such a chip would be significant. If they can streamline the screening process for such a bug and optimize the conditions for accuracy, I like its chances. The key IMO to such a product would be how extensive/expensive the peripheral technology needed to use the chip is. Not many hospitals are equipped with a micro-array reader, so will IDBEF provide all this to their customers or do they have some kind of a partnership with another company?
Maybe it doesn't need the reader and they use something else for analysis.
I will have to look them up. Thanks for the note.
