I may have one possible answer. I live not far from Orlando and go
to the amusement parks there often. Universal is preparing to open
a very large new amusement complex next to Universal Studios Florida.
This is the first real competition to Disney World that has come along. Before this a family spending a week in the Orlando area almost had no choice but to go to some of the Disney parks. Universal
Studios and Sea World would only eat up about 3 days max.
Now with this huge new complex, complete with nightclubs and hotels,
families will be able to spend a week without ever stepping foot on
Disney property.
I'm sure investors might be focusing on other weaknesses also such as
at ABC or the movie divisions. But even without this, Seagrams is
going to take a cut out of Disneys earnings for awhile at least.
