My first reaction, like everyone else, was disappointment at the small percentage. However, if they simply want to give the discount brokerage business the profile and market exposure it has been lacking (due to being hidden in the banking business), then 10% is probably just as good as 20% for achieving that objective. In fact, wouldn't TD shareholders be better off with the lower percentage spinoff, as long as it's enough to catch the internet market wave, because we then still own 90% of this new, hopefully red hot stock? I'm therefore looking for a resumption in the uptrend once this has been fully assimilated.
Am I being logical, or naive?
