>>as consumers get more savy, they QUICKLY realize that Best Buy only has a small selection of starter stuff<<

Yes, but Best Buy caters to the masses. Computers, software, audio, video - an overall cool place. Whenever networking becomes common place, Best Buy will have it.

Whenever I go in a CompUSA, I want to get out ASAP. My wife doesn't even mind waiting in the car. When I go to Best Buy, well, my wife better pack a lunch. A lot of it has to do with product categories, atmosphere and presentation. Best Buy excels at all three.

And don't forget about all of the small computer shops popping up in strip malls that offer friendly, knowledgeable service (if you can understand broken English) at much better computer show prices. Most computer savvy people I know shop at these places for hardware and I personally recommend them to the non savvy.
