Well don't struggle too long with this one

They are going to do what any veteran company of the PC market would do. They are going to come up with a directory based application and sell their directory as the infrastructure.

That is why digitalme and i-chain and the various open object oriented data access standards used by these systems are so important.

Novell needs a killer app that uses its directory on the internet. I would concentrate in three areas (1) business to business purchasing/ordering (2) e-commerce as in digitalme with the credit card companies to establish an internet order/vendor/billing system (3) identity protection using digitalme --- here I would try to make a splash in the Fall with the school systems and an application of digitalme that protected minor's identities.

You can be sure that MSFT understands what I'm saying. After all I once had a student who came up with a computerized method for recording music and had Microsoft people fly in to talk to him and that was early 80's and word of mouth.

They know how to do these things well. Let's hope that Schmidt and those working with himn understand how little internet time they really have.
