The phone only has to be on to receive text messaging. If the phone is not on, you will receive your text messaging after you turn the phone on. I don't know what Sprint is doing, but the text messaging software from PrimeCo is called "PrimeCo Lite Messaging" and costs $40. After you buy the software, I think the service is free except for the phone call to send it.

PageNet is supposed to roll-out their text messaging on Motorola pagers next month (as rumor has it).
