with Palmer onboard AMD what can we expect?

- Closer ties AMD-CPQ
- get some semi production talent from Hudson (AMD badly needs it)
- AMD going out of business or being sold (to CPQ?)

Seriously, with AMD K7 and Alpha being slot compatible there is a chance for a real alternative to Intel (in the server space too)
but Compaq has to support it..
Being Palmer on Pfeiffer pay list (he got so much for giving away Digital) this preludes to stronger CPQ.AMD ties.

Palmer was instrumental in the demise of Digital
He was either inept or tied by his gerontocrat board of directors.

Remember:
the brightest innovations in the Wintel architecture (NT, Pentium, Pentium pro etc.) were Digital intellectual property

Wintel stole them and then came to agreements with Digital and, one way or the other paid for it.

Digital, propelled by superb products that sold themselves, dominated the world for a while and made so much money that it could afford the brightest people (including me)

Due to the self-selling products (PDP, VAX, Ethernet etc.) Everyone made a career and that was the beginning of the end, inept management in almost every position, than .....crack!

yesterday i saw the dismantling of the old Digital sign in Rome
and the superimposing of a Compaq logo.

After 20 years with Digital ('79-'99, 15 as an employee, 5 as a consultant) i was touched.

p.s.
i guess this is a note for the (dead) Digital thread.
