I don't know why we're there, but I've been trying to figure it out. I have a basic tactic for deciphering the reasoning behind a political decision, and that is follow the money. Since Vietnam we have mostly fought for the control of drugs (Southeast Asia, Central America) or oil (Middle East), but other than the charge that the KLA is funded in part by drug money, I haven't seen much of either involved in this situation. The one thing I am certain of is that it is not a humanitarian issue. We have stood idly by too many times in the past in the face of the same sort of genocide for me to believe that we are there simply because the Serbs are killing some Albanians. -BLT
