Insurance underwriters are less concerned about a
catastrophic accident than the commercial losses that could mount
up if aircraft are delayed by technology breakdowns. "The chain
event is the worrisome bit," said the broker.
Aviation insurers reversed a decision earlier this year to
exclude Y2K-related losses from airlines' standard insurance
policies. "The feeling was that you can't leave the airlines to go
bust," said one underwriter.
