(off subject) Sorry, Ray I didn't mean you were hyping. I was just thinking out loud about the trend of this thread. I think people are buying too much into that patent thing. Motorola has V.34 patent and it sued USRX and ROK (then MOT and ROK kissed and USRX is counter-suing), but how many modem market does MOT have? Pretty small compared with USRX and ROK I think. If all the money eventually goes into Amati's pocket, then why do all other ADSL companies work so hard? What's the point for competition?
Also, LU has commercial VDSL (based on CAP) for some time now and NEC is their customer, so don't be surprised if the HK deal doesn't have Amati inside. Ariel (ADSP) has agreement with Globespan and lately announced development using TI's new C6x DSP; USRX has agreement with Globespan and the super-cheap 56k/ADSL modem could be a CAP as well. DSP is programmable, one can do all kinds of signal processing with it. It just amazes me how folks on this thread are able to read&imagine between the lines.
Now this company is pretty much one man's firm since most of the management's shares belong to Cioffi, what happens to all the other directors and officers? A start-up with only 9% management ownership is a little too low. Besides if Cioffi is so sure about the future of this company, why doesn't he quit that associate professor job and work in Amati full-time? Money isn't an issue; fame? He's a fellow... FORE's founders are from CMU, are they still teaching? Just some thoughts.
