Heard the same rumour.

Nortel Networks is involved in dozens of Alliances and I have no doubt that they at least know about RIM. The wireless interface to the Web seems to fit well with Nortel's vision of WEBTONE.

Last year, Nortel Networks bought Broadband Networks Inc (Winnipeg based). The technology was, pardon the pun, much broader than that of RIM, but there are some similarities between the two (both Canadian, both start-ups with excellent technology, both developed by entrepreneurial designers).

Whether NT buys in or not, I think RIM will do well going forward.
