I use NAIC's SSG to help me investigate a stock. The SSG is great for a long-term, fundamental view of a company but it doesn't do much with a balance sheet, especially recent trends. I just did a balance sheet anaylsis of Applebees. Let me know what you think of it. Am I incorrect in my conclusion that APPB has a weak balance sheet and questionable management policies? Look at their high debt-equity ratio and their announced plans to buy back $50 million of company stock this year. Does this make sense?
