<Philosophical rant>

Those two cents I promised I'd been saving up all this time...

1. This board versus the many YAHOO boards I've followed

I *hate* following Yahoo boards because, well, there's so many Yahoos! Too many people not interested in contributing, discussing, analysing, debating...too many people really more interested in yanking someone else's chain, calling names, crowing about not their successes but others' losses... This board was such a pleasure, more when I first started reading it a few weeks ago than now: people were *contributing*, not engaging in schoolyard bravado. It's a little less adult now than it had been, but let's work at improving it.

2. Shorters' scare tactics versus longs' cheerleading:

As has been said before, if you have honest opinions, voice them, explain them. If you see opinions, even strong ones, that are counter to your own, debate the opinions, not the person voicing them.

If you're short, explain why; *I* am very interested to know as much as possible even if it makes me worry for my investment.

Many times in the past I've seen postings from a shorter that answer accusations of scare tactics by pointing to the (sometimes Pollyanna-ish) boosterism of the longs. The difference is that it's far more easily argued that shorts post scare tactics in an attempt to manipulate prices, where most outrageous boosterism is likely to be genuine if sometimes misguided and often naive enthusiasm. This doesn't cover stupid postings like the idiot who apparently lied about a CNBC story this afternoon.

3. If you're winning and others are losing...

Why can't we be satisfied with winning? Why is it that increasingly we derive more satisfaction from others losing than from the fact we're winning? You see it in Nike ads, you see it in sports all too often, and you *sure* see it on these boards! Enjoy being right, enjoy making money, enjoy winning. Don't spend so much time trying to demean those who aren't there with you!

Sorry if this is obvious or a repeat to many or most, it's just that I get so tired of wasting my time reading useless picking at each other.
