All I can say is that I use Bellsouth.net as my ISP, and I only have two other friends that use it. Bellsouth.net came in relatively late after lots of folks already had an ISP and didn't want the hassle of a change in their e-mail address. BellSouth still has local access #'s in relatively few cities in their service area. MSN, AT&T and AOL have lots more towns. I do not understand why Bellsouth is not the dominant player.
I have never read of the baby bells elsewhere being real aggressive in internet marketing.
My point is that the local phone company does not seem to have an advantage, at least her in the USofA. Being first does seem to have advantages
