I am just starting to learn about options.....I am thinking of puts BUT why not just do a stop loss and invest the money you would spend on puts somewhere else??....especially if the shares are in an IRA and you do not have to worry about taxes......just seems like very expensive short term insurance to me.

Am I wrong???....would appreciate any advice on this subject....TIA
