[jpc second source/ msft]

hi steve (and all),

thanks for posting the NBMO report... always nice to see some detail.. the report was consistent with cc's: bottom line should be q4 regarding profitability..

and these last few days have been entertaining enuf.. as far as this latest orctf runnup goes... does anyone have a feeling for the size of some of larger trades making up this volume? have been tracking daily volume/news since late 97 ... the only other time we've had four straight days with volume over 250k like these last 4... is in april 98 when gte announced... so am inclined to think something real might be up...

am guessing that we may have some jpc second source news in the near future... in the last cc believe tamir said decisions would be forthcoming in 2q/q3 ... so altho on the early side, seems we are in the expected time frame... if it turns out to be good news ...believe this would be a big deal

if not jpc, suppose it could be something on the european front, tho don't think anything in the blockbuster category is pending near term: rumor has it that orctf is chasing the adsl tender for france telecom with both lu and fujitsu (sounds like a replay of dt) ... expect ala will get the big piece, and maybe orctf/etc can pick up something...

and then there's also PTT Netherlands, italia telecom, and bt (the sleeper) all of whom will announce plans (one way or another) one of these days...

and also there's china: the National Frame Relay Network Project... and the eisenberg group..

---

another angle could be the msft adsl announcement from monday (right timeframe):
"MSN Internet Access Begins Digital Subscriber Line Trials"
microsoft.com

last fall gte mentioned that msft was one their "first major ADSL customers" ...
gte.com

maybe "MSN Internet Access DSL" is using orctf/fujitsu thru gte?... even if true, am not so sure that such news would be enuf to explain the action this week as these are only trials.. but you never know ... with internet mania and all
--

longer term expect aol and msft to duke it out over broadband/tv: webtv vs aol-tv.. believe fujitsu and msft are working together on WebTV in japan... where fujitsu has a 25% stake...

also expect that one of these days we will get a press release re adsl/gte (orctf-fujitsu)/aol... similar to adsl/bel (ala)/aol and adsl/sbc (ala)/aol.. believe gte networking has the aol contract for integration between aol and all the usa telecom co's providing adsl service... of which gte is one... so aol adsl seems to be in the gte family to start with...

til later
