Thanks Bob, I recreated the dir from scrtach and now the problem has gone away. I went and tried your tranlsation tips with no success. QP help for output dicusses using translate files but provides no sample format. i went with the format you described. !OLDNAME,OLDNAME no white spaces. Quotes Plus now has a separate metastock output tool which creates MS dirs. the output tools onlu creates ASCII, Quicken, & Text. Dialogs in this tool allow specification of a translation table and metastock export does not. With the file default.xlt in the \qplusdat\output directory did not result in any translation of names. Any Ideas???? Sean
