As you note bob, the embedded systems market is growing. But so too are companies entering that market.

It is inevitable that this is going to result in some erosion of market share of existing players. Other companies like Metrowerks are doing deals with more and more companies - can't seem to turn a profit yet - but they are generating revenues.

Certainly, Windows CE is not going to find its way into all embedded systems applications but it is making moves in conjunction with Windows NT into the Industrial Automation market with Microsoft's Windows DNA initiative as I note in my post #4476.

To think that WinCE will compete in the real-time embedded market is just laughable.

Words similar to those were probably uttered by Apple when MSFT decided to develop their Windows O/S. Apple's arrogance almost sealed its fate. WinCE in the real-time embedded market may be laughable - but let's make sure they are joking - because if MSFT is serious about competing in a market place, even one in which they have never operated (ask Netscape), they have been known to be successful.

Just an observation or two.
