Here's some more wind for your sails or whatever you do with your wind.

Some info about this area as reported in the The Rocky Mountain Oil Journal last week:

Amoco reportedly making 15 mmcfgpd east of Jonah, HS Resources, Yates Pet. plan more drilling sw of Jonah-Sublette County Wyoming.

The prolific Jonah field area of Sublette county Wyoming continues to expand. According to field sources, Amoco is making about 15 mmcfgpd after frac from the company's #15-4 Antelope swse 4-29n-109w. This gas reportedly is coming from the Lance at a depth near 11,800'. It has also been rumored that while drilling the #15-4, Amoco cut several sidewall cores and encountered "unusual rocks". The significance of this, if true, is not clear at this time. Location of this well is about two miles to the east-northeast of the eastern flank of Jonah field, a large gas reservoir that produces from the Lance and Mesaverde. Latest production figures for this field show that in November of 1998 this reservoir produced about 4.544 bcfg, 47,532 bo and 7,981 bw from about 75 producing wells. Within this same township, Amoco has staked two other wildcats east of Jonah field and south of their indicated producer. One and a half miles southeast of the #15-4 Amoco plans to drill the #3-14 Antelope swnw 14-29n-107w. This test is set up as a 11,900' Lance test. About a mile to the south of the #3-14, Amoco has staked the #15-23 Antelope swse 23-29n-107w. Nearest hole drilled to this location is about one mile to the southeast at Texaco's #1 Unit nesw 25-29n-107w. Completed as a dry hole in 1963, this test bottomed in the Cretaceous at a depth of 11,008'. Four tests in the Upper Cretaceous Fort Union and Lance from 8202'-9029' all recorded gas shows however the test was plugged.

Another company that might be taking advantage of the rumored Amoco gas strike is Artesia New Mexico based Yates Petroleum. The company has recently permitted a Mesaverde test about a half mile to the southwest of Amoco's #15-4 Antelope. The Highway Federal #2 sene 8-29n-107w is projected to a depth of 13,000'. Anticipated spud date for this wildcat is April 1.

Moving to the southwest of Jonah field, HS Resources has staked the second test within the 23,610 acre Scarlet Unit. The #14-12 Scarlet Unit sesw 12-27n-109w is projected to the Lance and Rock Springs at a depth of 11,000'. This location is about one and a half miles to the south of the obligatory well for the Scarlet Unit. The #1 Holmes Federal #5-1 swnw 1-27n-109w has been drilled and according to reports this well is currently producing between 3-400 mcfgpd under compression into the pipeline. This producer is two and a half miles to the southeast of Plains Petroleum #1 Golden Gate Unit sesw 27-28n-109w. Drilled in 1995, this test bottomed in the Upper Cretaceous Blair at a depth of 12,104'. One DST in the Blair from 11598-12,104' recovered 400' of mud prior to plugging in 1995. Unit participants in the Scarlet Unit include Snyder, Yates, Westport Oil and Gas, Javelina Partners, John Strang, Cabot Oil and Gas and High Plains Associates.
