[lu] hi rose, hope all is well.. and trust you've profited from this latest orctf run... ;) btw.. fwiw... have been meaning to get back to you... but have been a little distracted... do not think we will be hearing about a system alliance between lu and orctf in the near term... as much as i would like to see such happen... and (unfortunately) don't believe lu has invested $ in orctf... tho this is not to say that there aren't significant lu/orctf connections... and lu and orctf do go way back... still believe they (or rok) offered to step in with cash when the original orctf ipo was in jeopardy... but then market conditions improved and orctf pushed ahead without whoever it was (usa telecom co) and went public... --- and essentially what i believe is known: in 96 the two were supplying hdsl to ptt netherlands... in january of 97 orctf was supplying hdsl to telephonica spain in partnership with lu... in december 97 it was announced that lu and orctf together won a 1000 line tender for adsl trials with ptt netherlands.. in march 98 lu was demonstrating orctf adsl @ cebit... in june 98 it was reported (in the globe's- article since pulled) that lu had bid on dt adsl tender with orctf... this last fall orctf signed an agreement with lucent systems for cooperation in marketing in europe africa and the middle east ... and right now orctf is rumored to be chasing france telecom with lu (and also separately with fujitsu) top of my watch list for further lu/orctf stuff is france telecom and ptt netherlands... where i believe tenders are out now for adsl deployment... would love to see lu/orctf in s. america, but can find no news to support my fantasies... --- in the last orctf cc, tamir commented: "in q4 we also signed an agreement with lucent systems for cooperation in marketing in europe africa and the middle east .. this is a formalization of our long term working with lucent in europe.. right now it gives us much more power? in europe.. we are working with lucent in many areas many countries together and we hope to start see the results of this cooperation already in this year in 99..." --- no doubt you have heard/seen rumors of lu interest in orctf (in israeli press)... would be a tasty morsel for lu and very good fit.. but am inclined to think that fujitsu wouldn't let that happen and besides still think orctf wants to play their hand out.. tho you never know, as it looks like lu may have scooped up libit... yesterday it was reported in the globes that lu had purchased libit (cable modem silicon)... for $250 mil.. don't know if you've followed this one, but libit (israeli/private headed for ipo) apparently was started up by orctf (breakaway) talent... very hot product... and they have been very tight with fujitsu... close enuf that i would have expected fujitsu to step in before lu... apparently they didn't/wouldn't... will be interesting to see what fallout there might be... over this one if it turns out to be true that they are now lu best wishes s
