What I look for with each of the groups...

I scan these groups and come up with a good generalization of what the market is doing. I usually will not try the first trades but watch for VOLUME and pick off the highest volume stock from each group to form my expectation. I will ignore any low volume stocks.

I often tell my students to learn how volume affects the trades by writing down the total volume in 5 minute intervals beginning at the open. I also ask them to learn what the pre market volume indicates.
After a few days of doing that, they will soon learn to distinguish between High volume, Medium volume, and Low volume stocks. They will also realize how the volume affects the spread, predictability, pace, risk, etc..
