Glenn -- I have been under a lot of time pressure that keeps me from posting -- but from what I gathered looking at the action overnight in Asia and then later in New York, there is a real cloud over the market -- not so much a dark cloud as one of uncertainty. The war is looking more like a war now that Americans are held prisoner. I saw a couple of minutes of Clinton's speech -- it sure looked like he was beating the drum for ground troops if that is what it takes -- or at least sustained air strikes. And there is concern about how things will play out in Asia -- a delicate balance that could go either way. Much depends upon banking reform, which in the case of Japan means coming up with several hundred billion dollars on top of financing several hundred billion in new public works projects. Unless they unload US bonds, the only alternative is to pump an extra $500 billion to $1,000 billion into the Japanese money supply! Everybody is looking for signs -- like in the old days when the fed didn't announce its decision and it was up to the market to read the entrails of their market actions. I am watching interest rates, which may face added pressure if the jobs report is strong. With a 30 yr yield above 6.75, institutions will reallocate to bonds and raise cash. Anyway -- have a great weekend.
