AJC and 1998 Earnings Estimate

I was shocked when I read that Abbey Joseph Cohen's S and P 500 1998 earnings forecast was off by $3 for 1998 (as I believe reported in the Sunday New York Times). She works for Goldman Sachs, probably commands a large staff, has as much computing power as she needs, has numerous resources at hand, has better information than the average investor and this earnings forecast was off $3? She supposedly goes through the earnings of each company in the 500 to come up with a composite forecast and this is the result??
