Also long, not in Wisconsin, and not pregnant (at least I don't think so).
Just received my 98 annual report in the mail today in which Birck talks about the Ciena fiasco. Doesn't sound like he wants to do that again and, with their own research in DWDM, they no longer need Ciena. He does mention, however, weakness in the data-centric packet area, and the need for "some type of acquisition or joint venture".
I'm betting it's a joint venture he has in mind.
