Report: Feds ignored toxics in plants
Toledo, Ohio -- Concerned more about Cold War weapons production than worker safety, U.S. government officials for years stood by as employees at manufacturing plants were exposed to deadly levels of toxic metal dust, a newspaper reported.
Following a 22-month investigation, the Toledo Blade said Sunday that since the 1940s, hundreds of workers at weapons plants exposed to the dust from the metal beryllium have contracted beryllium disease.
The incurable illness, which attacks the lungs, is sometimes fatal.>>>
