Alstom Gets EUR43 Mln Brazil Car Paint-Shop Contract

PARIS -- Franco-British engineering group Alstom (ALS) Friday announced a EUR43 million turnkey order to supply the paint shop for Peugeot SA's (F.PEU) new Brazil plant.

In a statement, Alstom said the facility will meet strict environmental standards through the extensive use of water-based paints and will be highly automated.

The car plant - based at Porto Real in Rio de Janeiro state - is due to start operations in December 2000, with capacity to produce up to 125,000 vehicles a year.
