Thanks for highlighting that article Ken. You may recall that the principles outlined in this piece were discussed both here and in the VoIP thread over the past two years. At one point I engaged several folks in discussion about VoDSL (altough, admittedly, I was never clever enough to give it an acronym.. or did I <scratch scratch>) as a means of creating a virtual local exchange presence at layers two and three, while avoiding the hassles of pointing physical layer wires at a dedicated Class 5 switch.
Which, again, speaks to one of my mantras on this topic, that of the unbundling of the local loop along the delineations of the OSI model, as opposed to physical constructs. It's inevitable, and this article goes a long way to demonstrate its viability. Thanks. Frank_C.
ps - I've been spending the majority of my time at client sites during the past year, and I just received my mag-mail dating back to December. I have a stack of SoundingBoard mags, along with BCRs, Internet Telephonys, Lightwaves, CTIs, etc, that are all competing for my eyeballs. And I am the willing victim to it all. You've just pushed this issue of SB to the head of the line, where it only has to compete with my May Issue of the Cook Report On Internet. It's increasingly difficult assessing the priority of what should be read in one's leisure time, these days. Talk about a candy store... |
