Scumbria - If_Intel... I don't see any problems from here. In fact, the view is pretty good. If Intel fell flat today, AMD could only meet 25%-30% BC (best case)of the CPU market. Yougang said so. AMD has to execute a flawless manufacturing plan, something they have not done recently. Scumbria, AMD is betting the farm to be the #2 CPU company. Intel is an Industry leader and has a presence in much more than retail PC's. What you may perceive as a stagnant environment (Intel not whipping out it's 7th generation core / Merced just to respond to a K7), may be prudent business sense for a market leader and a company that has a history of rewarding it's share holders. It's kind of like the Cu thing. I think AMD is betting the farm on copper is ludicrous. The process is immature, and not needed for .18um. Intel has published a paper recently on a 1.03GHz SRAM test vehicle. This was with AL, not Cu. The risk /reward ratio of Cu to Al does not warrant converting at this stage. I don't know if you are aware how many things can go wrong with Cu in a process line. One errant act of putting the wrong wafers in the wrong tool contaminates the line. With AMD only having one Cu fab, I find the use of Cu extremely risky. IBM and MOT could handle like incidents. It would devastate AMD. It may not happen, but the risk is there. Scumbria, you keep indicating that the "Intelabee's must be worried", etc. I believe Intel has always indicated that they are aware of the pack nipping at their heels. I can tell you Intel takes AMD seriously. I can tell you Intel will have a response. I can tell you it focuses me on my job, as I am keenly aware of exactly what the ramifications are of myself failing in my small role. This IS business, this isn't a friendly round of golf. PB
