Isn't the chemical formula for methanol still CH3(OH) Now if you add oxygen don't you still wind up with water plus carbon carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide? 6O2 + 4CH3(OH) = 4CO2 + 8H2O I know that is relatively more benign than all the other funny stuff we now get free in fuel, such as benzene, but as far as contributing to global warming there are still that 4 molecules of carbon dioxide in a perfect reaction for every 8 molecules of water produced and that is not even considering the carbon monoxide or solid carbon that will plug up the reformer. Where do people get off saying that only water comes out the tailpipe?
