Gerald, Randy was right... I saw it in the TI DLP Theatre. The parts I saw were basically just the plastic shell. The guts of the machine (the innards of the projector) were missing. I have seen working projectors of that form factor based on a 2-chip DMD, so I don't think that it is unreasonable to assume that PJTV has theirs working. What impressed me was that I saw pin-ejector marks on the back side of the plastic parts. This means that the parts I saw were not mock-ups, but coming off of the tool which will eventually be used in production. I don't know anything about their problems with the FCC approval.

Making a DLP projector is not a very difficult thing to do. The hard part is making the DMD chips, which are bought from TI. The biggest challanges I see are:

1) Thermal and reliability problems with the lamp.
2) Electro-magnetic interference, and FCC approval.

Other than that, all you're doing is just bouncing light off of a DMD, and focusing it on a screen. Oh yeah, you have to also spin two little color wheels and synchonize the mirros with the spinning of the wheels.

There are at least a dozen companies making DLP projectors. The thing that impressed me with PJTV was their unique ability to use is in a rear-projection TV, and also as a front-projection device for a larger image. Of course, I tend to get over-excited about audio-visual devices.
