John, Half as many as they will soon have when they have Globalstar up their sleeve to fill in the Swiss Cheese.

This article is old, but shows some cellular coverage. See if you can find some places where Globalstar would be good to have.
mckinseyquarterly.com

When I read about all the problems with coverage in the USA in these discussions, I can't believe it's quite as comprehensive as shown on the map. It looks as though they've just filled in some areas on the map with a computer pixel spray gun!

It's nice to see some pricing entering the picture. It seems likely that Globalstar will start with retail around $1 - $1.50 per minute and they will still be able to sell all the handsets they can be bothered making at $1000 or even $1500.

I suppose they might as well see if there is any pent-up demand and get some high price expectations established so that 50c a minute looks very cheap. But they better not mess around too long playing that game. These satellites are rotting at $60 million dollars a month depreciation and 10% return on investment opportunity cost.

We need a LOT of handsets in operation in a SHORT time.

I say go with an introductory free-minutes offer with a $4000 handset. This is the premium, Globalstar, high quality, CDMA service, not the rotten, poor quality Iridium service. Who says Iridium should be considered the premium service anyway? Globalstar is the premium service. And Hay!, it's cheaper.
