Neither was the 3COM/STK and 3COM/DGN "alliance" going down the tubes
not mentioned here although on several other boards. At this point
in the game other than the 3COM name (which to many is a non-name and
the lack of the their own performance) the alliance did not appear to
be worth much. Potentially if 3COM were to have actually created and
delivered a product other than a hub and adapter card from another
vendor it might have been worth something. 3Com certainly lead the
network pack into (and out of) the FC environment, now a questions
should be, what happens with all of the other alliances? Will STK
go out and openly encourage other vendors to work together or will
they take the EMC route and go for "self-serving" alliances?

Now another question may be, when or will 3COm get back in? Will
CISCO or BAY time their entry to get into the game, or will a new
kid show up and provide similar functionalty?
