Since I've been using ie5 I discovered that you're right about it not alphabetizing Favorites (ie4 did, though -- although at some point it would screw up and start adding new Favorites and folders at the bottom of the list).

However, I also discovered that the Favorites are drag-able, so you can easily organize them any way you want! Also, if you didn't notice, the quick launch and start menu items are also drag-able.
