Sal, >I doubt that modem sales have been as brisk as you think...I know that if I needed a new modem, I'd wait until I could get a native x2 model. Many other people are doing the same.<

Then again, think about it: This has been debated here before, and here was *my* conclusion: The average joe/jane computer user is only dimly aware of 56K, if aware at all. Sure, I agree that for tech-heads like us, we know of the coming native x2 modems, and we choose to wait. I still need to switch ISP's, also. However, the masses of joes and janes will not know that x2 has even been under development until they see the 3-foot high signs in their local computer super-store.

Think about it, Sal. Maybe all your friends are tech-head computer buffs, but I seriously doubt that. Out of all the people I know who use a PC and modem on a regular basis, the only ones who know of the iminent release of native 56Kbps modems are the ones who I have told. And even they look at me as if I'm slightly fanatical. The average user will visit the store, see the signs and the modems, think on it, talk to their friends, and the word will spread. I know Sal, because that's how it was when we went from 9600 to 14.4, and to 28.8.

Did USR sales suffer making the transition to 14.4, or to 28.8?
