Aperios ignores Java. I have not come accross any reference to an effort to implement Java VM on top of Aperios. It would be interesting to know is Sony and Sun have had any such discussions.

A year or so ago TCI announced that WinCE and Aperios would be the two initial operating systems used on the DCT-5000 settop box for their advanced digital deployment. They also announced that Java TV (PersonalJava) would be the application environment on top of the OS. Also, there have been announcements regarding HAVi (Sony and Philips' Home Audio Video Interface, or something like that) and Jini interoperability, and I believe HAVi itself is specified using Java API calls. So I think you can definitely conclude Java will run on Aperios.
