bob,

everything you say makes rational sense but one thing......if the goal of etrade is ultimately to entice as many new customers to use their service(hence make more money), then they would be stupid to try to correlate the chances in getting ipo shares with the number of trades a person makes.....for instance , why would they care to make the people that make numerous trades their number one priority?.....these people only make up prob. 5% of their customer base......the people they want are the other 95% that dont trade that often but enticed to possibly because of the ipo offerings.....if you think about it, making $500 off of a million people is alot more valuable than making $5000 off of a 1000 people(i.e.-power etrade members) ....like all internet based business models, growth is king and you will not grow by catering to the select few......just a thought anyways..
