I think it is important to keep this thread alive as it provides an impartial place where people can ask mining, geology or even stock related questions without upsetting a lot of promoters hypesters etc.
On a lot of threads you see alot of numbers being thrown around,
assays tonnages etc and the question often arises WHAT DO ALL THE NUMBERS MEAN.
To start with the basic definition of ore is rock which can be mined at a profit.
I know this a little hard for some people to understand but you could have an identical deposit at let us say five different locations around the world and in some cases it would be ore, in others a marginal break even proposition while at other locations it would be uneconomical and hence not ore. It all depends on your costs,
not just your mining, milling and processing costs but on your total operating costs so taxes, royalties, wages, social and enviromental costs all come into play. You also have to factor in the cost of finding the deposit, the time element of how long the whole process will take and the hassels involved. ie what are the chances that the rules will be changed on you in mid stream by an unstable government, special interest groups or social and/or natural upheaval.
So the defination of what is ore may be fairly straight forward but determining weither or not you have ore and projecting what a property is worth and how much a mine will make is alot trickier.
So be carefull of the numbers promoters throw about. What they dont tell you is often as important as what they do tell you.
