Avista Corp. completes Y2K testing of all electric generation and transmission facilities
11 diversified generators and 172 substations now Y2K ready




Spokane, Wash.: Avista Corp. (NYSE: AVA) has completed Y2K testing at all 11 of its owned electric generation facilities located throughout the Inland Northwest. Together these facilities represent about 1200 MW of electric generating capacity-enough to power over 750,000 average-sized homes. The last plant to be tested was the company's Rathdrum natural gas combustion turbine located near Rathdrum, Idaho.
"We have yet to find a single embedded controller or subsystem anywhere within our generation or transmission infrastructure that would have hampered our ability to generate or deliver energy to our customers," said Jeff Brune, Y2K project manager for Avista Corp. "In general, the data collection and monitoring-related remediation required at Rathdrum was the same type of remediation required at all our other generating facilities." Consistent with the findings within the company's generation plants, Y2K project leaders continue to find low occurrence of Y2K sensitive componentry within the company's 172 substations. After assessing almost 11,000 embedded substation components, team members found fewer than 500 that contained date sensitivity. These components were mostly metering, monitoring and data collection devices.
