His take on RNWK is that AOL needs it; if it passes, ATHM's on deck.

AOL might need RNWK, but RNWK needs to stay away from AOL. The only way AOL could get hold of RNWK is through a hostile takeover attempt which would not work on a company where only 10% of the stock is available on the market.

What AOL really needs is a broadband strategy that's more than vapor. So far, they don't have it. Each month, thousands more people connect to the net through DSL using ISPs other than AOL since AOL offers only press releases and agreements for service "real soon now". Thousands more connect through cable modems. Satellite and broadband wireless on on the horizon (both literally and figuratively). AOL is not a part of any of it. RNWK is very much a part of it all. RNWK benefits from the rapid expansion of broadband. AOL benefits by slowing it down with the help of their armies of lawyers, publicists, and lobbyists.

RNWK benefits from an open and diverse internet. AOL benefits from a closed and and proprietary network. The companies just simply do not fit well together.
