EASTMAIN RESOURCES INC. REPORTS GOLD-BEARING SULPHIDE HORIZON
INTERSECTED ON THE DUNVEGAN ZONE AT AKWESKWA

Eastmain Resources Inc. (ER-TSE) is pleased to report that a
gold-bearing polymetallic (VMS) sulphide horizon has been traced
for a length of 1200 metres, on its wholly owned Akweskwa Project,
near Timmins, Ontario. Gold-bearing disseminated to semi-massive
pyrite and sphalerite was intersected in all six diamond drill
holes on the Dunvegan Zone across widths of one to ten metres.
Drill hole 96-22 intersected up to 18.51 gpt Au (0.54 ounces)
across one metre and 1.07 gpt Au across seven metres. Hole 96-20
also intersected 0.59 gpt Au, 11.8 gpt Ag and 1.10% Zn across 10
metres. Results to date confirm the presence of a significant
gold-bearing system which requires additional drilling.
The Dunvegan mineralization is contained within a broader zone of
altered felsic volcanic rocks, geochemically enriched in gold (20
to 500 ppb) and zinc (500 to 5000 ppm), which have been traced on
surface over an area 2,900 metres long by up to 150 metres wide.
The mineralization encountered to date is typical of the "distal"
portion or edge of a pyritic gold deposit such as the large
producing gold mines at Hemlo and Bousquet. Consequently, there is
excellent potential for the metal grade and thickness to increase
below the current limit of drilling. The Dunvegan Zone which has
only been drilled to 150 metres vertically below surface.
Due to the encouraging nature of these results and previous drill
intersections within the Dunvegan Zone, which encountered 20.5 gpt
Au across 1.95 metres and 18.5 gpt Au across 3.04 metres, a second
tier of drill holes, to test below the current level of diamond,
will commence on this zone in July.
EASTMAIN RIVER PROJECTS
An exploration budget in excess of $1.5 Million has been allocated
to the Eastmain River Projects for 1997. Exploration will include
a two phase program of surface stripping and diamond drilling on
the high grade gold deposit at Clearwater, held in joint venture
with SOQUEM. Work will also be completed on our joint venture
projects at Lac Elmer (Barrick Gold Corporation) and at Lac Hudson
(Orezone Resources Inc.).
